I'm Laura Dubourjal

I have been passionate about sewing since I was 14, and I’ve always seen fashion design as a way to create characters we want to transform into.

I come from a family of actors and I grew up surrounded by costumes and extroverted people who loved to wear them. It showed me that you can be anything you want to if you know how to make clothes.

I graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (NL) in 2018 from the Audio-visual(VAV) department, after studying 2 years in the Fashion department. I am since then a freelance visual artist and fashion designer.

I have been teaching sewing and pattern design lessons in private and small group lessons, as well as during corporate events in the form of workshops since 2019.

I love to recuperate older, forgotten clothes and textiles to transform them into new pieces of clothing. I like the challenge of transforming an old bed sheet or table cloth into a new fashion piece.

I also think it is a great technique to start learning pattern drawing with clothes we like but cannot wear anymore. By deconstructing them, learning how they are made and combining different parts of different garments we can create a new where no waste is made!
